Harriet Tubman: Liberation Through Land and Survival Medicine
Harriet Tubman is widely remembered as a conductor of the Underground Railroad, but her legacy as a healer and carrier of plant knowledge is often overlooked. This blog explores Tubman’s early life, her connection to land-based survival skills, and the African American folk herbal traditions that helped sustain freedom seekers during their dangerous journeys. Through historical research, ethnobotany, and personal family reflection, we examine five herbs rooted in Black healing traditions and how this ancestral knowledge continues to shape modern land stewardship and herbal practice at Yisrael Farms.
