Our Urban Roots Initiative is the vehicle we use to cultivate community and plant seeds in the fertile soil of hearts and minds.
Community-based. Earth-centered.
Growing Food
We prioritize the health of the land and the food we grow through no-till and low-till farming methods. Using regenerative agriculture, we focus on soil health, biodiversity, and ecological balance to produce high-quality fruits, vegetables, herbs, and eggs.
We provide farm-fresh produce, jams, and honey directly to families who value eating fresh, clean and local.
Our free-ranging chickens enjoy access to fresh pasture, producing high-quality, nutrient-dense eggs. These eggs are available through our egg subscription, on-site farm stand, and occasionally at local farmers' markets.
During the growing season our on-site farm stand provides the community with direct access to our freshly harvested produce and value-added products like jam and honey.
Growing People
We empower individuals through education, hands-on experiences, and meaningful opportunities.
We host classes and workshops that teach essential homesteading skills, like growing food, preserving food, and herbal medicine.
Our farm stand offers young leaders a platform to develop entrepreneurial and customer service skills in a real-world setting. We provide practical, workforce development training to youth, helping them learn farming, business, and communication skills essential for their future careers.
We partner with The Met High School to host youth who are passionate about agriculture and plant medicine production. These students gain hands-on experience while earning high school credit toward graduation, deepening their knowledge and skills in sustainable farming and herbalism.
Growing Community
We create connections and foster a sense of belonging through shared experiences.
Our open farm days invite the community to join us on the farm to learn by doing. These events are free and designed to bring people together to share in the joys of farming and sustainability.
We share our story and insights at events and conferences, inspiring others to embrace sustainability and community-based practices.
Through our vibrant social media presence, we connect with followers beyond our local area, sharing tips, inspiration, and the stories of the land. This helps us build a network of like-minded individuals beyond borders who support and learn from each other.
We Do Things Differently
For the past 10 years, Yisrael Family Farm has worked at the intersection of ecological land stewardship, sustainable food and agriculture, racial equity and justice, education and community building, and workforce development. Based in Sacramento, Yisrael Family Farm’s mission is to transform the hood for G.O.O.D. (Growing Our Own Destiny) using urban agriculture as a tool for community engagement, empowerment and employment.
